History of the Embrun Triathlon
History of the
Embrun Triathlon
Created in 2020, the very first Embrun Triathlon was cancelled due to the Covid health crisis. The adventure really began in 2021, with three formats on the program: XS, M and L. From the outset, the philosophy was clear: to democratize the practice of triathlon.
This first post-Covid event was a real success, with over 1,000 participants, 25% of them women, a figure that has been rising ever since.
In 2022, for the 2ᵉ edition, the race formats remain the same, with a strong objective: to encourage even more female participation. The number of competitors climbs to 1,200.
The 3ᵉ edition, meanwhile, marks an important milestone with the award of the Label Challenge Régional Adultes on the L format. The number of participants increases to 1,300 triathletes. Relays make their appearance on the M and L formats, and the event site undergoes a major change with a new layout for the bike park and a new finish line.
The 4ᵉ edition brings yet more new features:
- Change of date (from early July to late June),
- Appearance of the XL format,
- Relays maintained on M and L,
- The L format once again supports the Adult Regional Challenge.
The event was a great success, with 1,600 participants, 28% of whom were women. It was also the year we were lucky enough to welcome an exceptional godmother: Alexandra Tondeur, long-distance world champion and European champion.
As for the 5ᵉ edition, it marks a new stage in our development with the addition of the S format, completing the panel of races (XS, S, M, L and XL). The organization also innovates with the introduction of racks with transition bags to enhance triathletes' experience.
The result: record participation of 2,100 competitors, 32% of them women, and increasing internationalization.
Today, the Embrun Triathlon has established itself as a fast-growing event, driven by the desire to democratize the practice of triathlon and remain faithful to the essential values of the sport: humility, respect, surpassing oneself and solidarity. With formats accessible to all, it opens up the discipline to as many people as possible, while retaining the authentic spirit of triathlon.

An event driven by everyone's commitment
This success is based above all on a close-knit and passionate team, always ready to make suggestions to improve the event and offer the best possible experience to triathletes and the public alike. It also relies on the invaluable commitment of numerous local volunteers, without whom nothing would be possible, on the unfailing support of elected representatives and local authorities, and on the loyalty and involvement of our partners, who accompany us in our determination to make the Embrun Triathlon grow year after year.
